My spiritual Journey-

At age 8, I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life to be my Lord and Savior. Not having the proper spiritual guidance or understanding, I spent the next 10 years asking and praying for the salvation that I had heard about so often in church. I would later come to learn that the moment I opened my heart and mind to accept Christ at age 8, I was indeed born again at that very moment. (Romans 10:9-10)

I was the odd man out in my home at one point having a total of 4 sisters, and 4 brothers under one roof for a total of 9 children, with me being the younger of the girls. For reasons unknown to me at that time, I was the one who spent a significant amount of my free time at church, helping with simple tasks, and just having fun so I thought. Although my family attended church regularly, the concept of salvation through Jesus Christ was never taught or explained, not in my opinion, and certainly nothing that I could articulate. That meant I experienced a mini-wilderness experience even as a child until God lead me to a group of teenagers who had accepted Christ into their lives early. They allowed me to tag along with them to church, and to hang out around their house to chat and have fun.

Through attending church with my new friends, I came to understand what salvation meant, and how simply repenting of my sins and the accepting Christ into my heart sealed my future as a believer. From that day to this one, I have sought the will of God for my life through obedience to God’s word.

For the next 18 years, I would revisit another wilderness experience falling under the misguided principles of man, and serving on ministry platforms that simply were not the will of God for my life. Somehow in my heart of hearts, I knew that I was out of place, and out of season, but followed faithfully, endeavoring to do whatever it took to please God as well as people. (2 Timothy 2: 5)

I would later come to know and understand that the will of God for my life began with my obedience and desire to align my life with the word of God. As I begin to  apply the principles of the word of God, my purpose became clearer, and my God-given gifts that appeared hidden from me for many years erupted like a fountain. Without forcing it to happen, there it was staring me right in the face.

I could finally envision myself serving God’s people through the ministry of writing, and intercession, it was simply who I had become. Discovering your purpose may not happen overnight, but when you ask God to reveal it he will. Also, I learned that my purpose did not involve man’s pre-planned agenda, although it’s important to note that God has prepared ministers of the gospel to assist you in unearthing your Devine purpose through teaching. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I also came to understand that service and purpose are completely different, although they can also go hand in hand. I learned not to over-think purpose, and not to be overly-technical. No matter what church I attended, or the job that I acquired, somehow, I was the person who was asked to lead, write, and engage people. I couldn’t escape it.

Through my trials and tribulations, I finally shed the skin of what was popular, exchanging man’s concept of my purpose for the Divine purpose, and the covenant promises through FAITH.

“But I have raised you for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16).

“I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2). (Romans 8:28, Ecclesiastes 9:10, Exodus 9:16, Colossians 3:23)

Finding your purpose doesn’t mean that you become a “Rogue” Christian, without a local church, and under-shepherd who is ordained by God. It means that your journey and relationship with your savior must be primary, then you will be able to hear God clearly, and to serve in ministry according to your God-ordained purpose. How God has decided to utilize your gifts will be a complement to the ministry, not a re-creation. It is pertinent that you allow your peace meter through faith in the word of God to be the guiding principle, and not what is popular or just to depend on your natural-born skill-set.

Although I never left God, I felt empty, and alone, even while amid hundreds and sometimes thousands of people. The book that I started over 20 years ago was never finished, and low and behold here I stand today, back at that very place of writing, and uplifting those who are seeking to understand their God-ordained purpose for their lives. God has given me my marching orders, and this time I am humbled that he has given me another chance to assist in serving through this platform, “Discovering Prudence”.

Today I am genuinely happy that the mistakes, mishaps, and misjudgments have all lead me back to the original reason that I was born.  In retrospect, those mistakes were powerful resources that helped me to realign my purpose as I continually seek his face, on the journey to serve according to his will.

Thank you for being a part of my journey to obeying God, and for allowing me to serve you on this platform, the In-Season Devine Purpose for my life!

Sincerely,
Bernadette Anthon
