Life is filled with difficulties, unexpected twists and turns, and roadblocks that require immediate judgment calls and attention to the emergencies that can shake up our lives. There is an old saying that “everything happens for a reason,” but that may not be entirely true. What we do know, however, is whether life’s roadblocks were destined to happen or not; capitalizing on mistakes or unfortunate incidents is how you get ahead in life.
The true meaning of Success is simply the culmination of opportunity meeting the best possible judgment call. There are no firm rules, and the principles vary from one person to the next. However, what all successful people have in common is that they “know and understand” how opportunity looks. The average person may stare possibility in the face and call it a mishap, when successful minded individuals will covet the occasion as a “window of opportunity” rather than a roadblock.
You’ve heard the saying, “When life serves you lemons, make lemonade”? That’s the quintessential definition of Success. Keeping in mind unless a person uses every opportunity (even those that appear to be a mishap), it’s a missed opportunity to capitalize on a possibility.
Think BIG!, look for possibilities, not dubiously wavering in your confidence. The Bible says that “Faith without works is dead” James 2:26. God knew that to capitalize on life’s opportunities, we must put work into action, forcing out doubt and unbelief.
Make today the last time you look opportunity in the face and turn your head just because someone you love failed you, a divorce caught you off guard, you were laid off your job, or whatever mishap that attempts to steal your “window of opportunity, changed your plans as you knew them.” Change the scope of your thinking to make “every unexpected twist and turn” into a season of success and prosperity.
If you lost your job, there is a better one. If your spouse or significant other no longer wanted the relationship, it’ okay; there is someone else who will love you more. If you lose your job, there’s another that pays more, or an opportunity to launch a business is present. God doesn’t’ miss, and when we connect with opportunity and change our mindset goes from “Woe is me” to “This is an opportunity!” Thinking upward is how you can ride the wave of endless possibilities instead of being downtrodden and hopeless.
God created our minds to be more productive than the war on our purpose. In essence, don’t allow situations that temporarily upend you to define your Success. Think optimism, persistence, creativity, passion, and the refusal to accept failure as an option. Remember, every single crossroad in life is accompanied by what I call a “Sliding Window.” It’s the timing between when the vision is born and how long you have to engage it. The Bible explains opportunity as not interpreting the calamity as final, while taking into account the advantage of the opportunity to find success from the loss itself.
Scripture of the Day- Ecclesiastes 11: 6
Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
